Students in two adult degree programs receive latest iPad device
Both programs consist of 36 credit hours of instruction and can be completed in as few as 16 months.
Management and Organizational Leadership
The MOL hybrid format combines online and classroom instruction, requiring students to attend three face-to-face weekend intensive class sessions at the university’s Portland Center near Tigard. The remaining classroom time is conducted online, making it an ideal program for incorporating the iPad, according to Dr. George Byrtek, an associate professor in the program.
“We believe that having standardized technology and software for video conferencing will aid in maintaining close contact between student and instructor and among members of the cohort,” he said. “This facilitates our ability to deliver on our brand promise: ‘Be Known.’ It also helps us move in the direction of exclusively using digital books and learning materials to create efficiency and cost savings, as well as to reduce our carbon footprint.”
The technology management major teaches students to plan, design and evaluate process improvement initiatives using technology services and information systems across a wide spectrum of global environments including corporations, nonprofit and educational institutions.
“With the integration of the iPad into our curriculum, students will be able to examine virtual business process automation, evaluate cloud services, interact with the instructor’s materials and effortlessly communicate with the other technology professionals,” said Greg Allen, faculty lead for the technology management major.
“We are constantly looking for new ways to deliver unique learning experiences. The iPad allows us to be more creative in transforming the learning experience and untethering our students from the traditional classroom dynamics. The more innovative we are in integrating the iPad into the curriculum, the richer the experience for our technology management professionals.”
The iPad allows students to download iBooks, PDF notes or other reader applications. It is ideal for working with course syllabi and other handouts, video conferencing, and for sharing documents and course notes. It also opens up a vast amount of educational interactive online tools and curriculum.
