E-nnouncements are a great way to stay up on what is going on around campus. You may view these a few ways.
Through the Website - You may go to the E-nnouncements website click here to read the up-to-date news.
Through Email - Go to the E-nnouncements website and click the envelope link next to the appropriate announcements. The e-nnouncements will be sent to the email address you request.
Archive E-nnouncements are available online as well.
As you plan your class schedule it will be important to understand the registration policies and deadlines. Check out the Registrar's Office website for exact dates. For additional information, you may contact the appropriate person in the Registrar's Office.

What interests you? Sometimes it seems like there are so many opportunities. Other times, nothing really stands out. We do have some resources to help.
Career Services has many different resources to help with your selection.
Take time to visit instructors from several departments in order to gain valuable information about their various fields.
Once you have decided on a major, you may inform us by filling out a Major/Minor Declaration form and dropping it off at the Registrar's office located on the first floor of The Stevens Center.
How to Select a Faculty Advisor
- takes the time to talk with you.
- you enjoy talking with. You and your advisor should "click."
- spends the time to find out what interests you.
- is in the field you are thinking about studying.
- seems knowledgeable in your field of study.
An advisor could be a professor who you have really enjoyed. You may also check with the department of your major for available advisors. Make an appointment to meet with them and see how your discussion goes. Ask them what excites them about their field. If this person seems to be able to meet your expectations, ask them to be your advisor. You will need to have them sign the Advisor Change form found in the Registrar's office or online. This form may also be used to declare your major.
Have you thought about what direction you would like to take with your career? Do your classes just seem to run together? Are there any that you really enjoy? Several people on campus are available to help you shape your career goals.
Some great resources include your advisor, professors, and your major department. Ask them what excites them about their field and what opportunities are available.
Another great resource is our Career Services office. They have great information to help with those questions.
In order to be done in four years, it is necessary to take 16 credits each semester to reach the total credit requirement for your major. Your advisor can help in planning your courses for the next year. We also have another great resource: Major Course plans. These four year plans are your major department's recommended timeline for your coursework. If you have any questions, please contact your advisor or the Registrar's Office.

A Special Study or an Independent Study can be designed to either meet a course requirement which will not be available for you to take due to a conflict or a way you would be allowed to study something that really interests you. This also works to meet additional course requirements necessary for graduation.
The first step is to find a professor willing to oversee your independent study. Then either pick up a form from the Registrar's Office or download it here. This form requires various signatures and works as a contract with your instructor of what will be required to earn the credits assigned.
It is important to finish this process during the add/drop period of the semester you intend to take the class. A late registration fee will be incurred after the first few days of the semester.
Employers are looking to hire recruits with "real world" experience. Internships are available to equip you with that experience. Our Career Services office can offer help in planning your internship experience. A professor on campus or even your major department may have additional ideas.
Once you have a location and a GFU professor to oversee your internship, you will need to submit a field experience form with the Registrar's office.
Planning for General Education Requirements
George Fox is a liberal arts university whose goal is to prepare our graduates with a well-rounded education. We believe that our general education courses prepare our graduates to be knowledgeable about many areas in order to be prepared as people who participate "responsibly in our world's concerns" ( GFU Mission Statement).
Many general education courses can be taken during your first two years at GFU. The remainder you can plan to fit around your major classes as you proceed through the program. Lower-division classes, 100 and 200 level, are best suited in your first two years. Upper division requirements, 300 and 400 levels, are best suited during your junior and senior years.

How To Be Academically Successful
We can recommend several steps to help you be successful in your studies. Check them out.

- CLEP exams are available on the Newberg campus once a month throughout the summer and twice a month during the academic year. They are also available at several college campuses. The general exams are only available for first time freshmen through their first semester. Once that semester is complete, the subject exams will be the only exams available.
- If you intend to take coursework from another institution to complete your GFU requirements, please verify the course will transfer in as you expect before you take the class. Check out this website for additional information. We have posted several community college transfer guides from Oregon and Washington. If the school you are taking your coursework from is not on our list follow the directions listed here.

Current and Past Enrollment
George Fox University has authorized the National Student Clearinghouse to provide enrollment verifications. This service is used by current George Fox University students or recent alumni to report current or recent enrollment.
Grades and/or GPA
To provide documentation of your grades and/or GPA (example: good student discount for auto insurance), ask if an unofficial transcript will suffice you can print all unofficial transcripts through MyGFU. Click the Self Service tab, choose Academic Records, and then View Unofficial Transcript. If you need something more official - bring or send their form or our form to the Registrar's office. We will send the verification in about two weeks.
Pre-Registration or Other Verification NeedsTo verify future registration or for any other reason not discussed above, bring or send their form or our form to the Registrar's office. We will send the verification in about two weeks.
When you begin college you have a number of choices to make and it is very easy to take on more than you can handle. Just like it is important to eat a balanced diet, the activities in which you participate need to reflect balance as well. Remember, college is about a complete educational experience which includes your learning in the classroom as well as key activities and relationships outside the classroom. However, too much of either does not reflect a healthy lifestyle.
The Academic Resource Center (ARC) exists to help you work through some of these decisions related to your coursework. The ARC offers tutoring and various workshops throughout the year on such subjects as test taking strategies and time management.
Health and Counseling Services is available to help with many of your health concerns and questions.
